Dear Richmond Council & TFL,

RE: EAST SHEEN VILLAGE

In 2016 the council carried out a residents survey asking us what we wanted for our local area. The results resoundingly asked for a Village Centre to give us a sense of community.

Below is an extract of the survey findings from the Richmond.gov.uk website:

“The opportunity to create a ‘village centre’ at Milestone Green has been identified in the proposed Vision for East Sheen’.

In addition to this, on the ‘High Streets and Commercial Centres’ page of the East Sheen Village Plan on the website it says:

"The Council will look to establish a focal point in the heart of East Sheen village. This will include redeveloping Milestone Green and closing the slip road to make one large raised area. The project could include continuing the joint surface across Sheen Lane and up to Larches Avenue to create a larger cohesive space. Loading would be allowed at designated times, but the space would be multi-purpose and used for community events and markets. This larger more comprehensive scheme would see the part closure of Sheen Lane when markets are held so is subject to vehicle movement surveys.”

We believe this can be achieved and will not need a raised area or to only have loading at designated times as there is space enough for 2 large vehicles to still load at the far end of the area, nearest Larches avenue. It may also not require partial closure of Sheen Lane as this may complicate matters.

We are signing this petition to ask that you put this redevelopment in motion as soon as possible.

I'm a local Childminder. It's dangerous having cars crossing over here and sheen needs more of a village atmosphere and focus on bringing local community together. Thanks Hero for starting this petition! I'm spreading the word!

I think Milestone Green would really benefit from some flowers & green grass. It feels unloved and it is the site of an important memorial. We can do better!

Slip road is very dangerous anyway, with cars using it as a quick sprint to go south on to sheen lane. Numerous close shaves with buggies and pedestrians.

I strongly support this idea, which could bring real benefit to our coummunity with minimal inconvenience in losing the slip road. I live in Nelson Terrace on Sheen Lane & would love to have a farmers market locally.

East Sheen is a gem of the Borough of Richmond but it has no centre or focus. The loss of many trees in the immediate area is a great loss and Milestone Green would create a new vibe and create more interest in the area for local residents and visitors.

This is a wonderful idea, just what we need to create a focal point for the community. In these divisive times anything that brings people together is to be welcomed and Sheen has always lacked a 'village green'. Of course the details need careful thought, taking account of the needs of local people and nearby businesses, but the overall vision is surely right.
