During this swap to virtual at Larry A. Ryle, the school has transitioned into a schedule where you have to check into a class for every period. Although a good idea on paper, this system causes:

- Students to not be able to do long, standardized tests between classes because of constraint on time.

- Students to have to push back work just to go into a 20 minute google meet that yields no new information, and only interrupts students during the school day

- Teachers to have to mold their whole schedule around conducting multiple, unnecessary google meets.

Before the switch to virtual at the start of the school year, we had a perfect system: Sign into google meets with your teachers IF you need help, and marked attendance through completion of assignments and activity on canvas. Now that the school is requiring that all teachers do a google meet at the start of each class period, this is clogging up many of my fellow student schedules, including my own. I petition for a reversal of the new requirements, because there was nothing wrong with it and it worked better than what we have now.

If you decide to sign it: Please spread this to as many Ryle students as possible. This petition will be included in an email to Mr. Shafer about the consequences of these google meets. The more signatures the better!

Updates

November 24, 2020

I have been reviewing the feedback provided in the comments regarding the current virtual attendance policy. It is clear that the mandatory meet requirements are creating significant obstacles for students trying to manage their daily workloads effectively. I am currently preparing a formal correspondence for administration to address these concerns.

November 24, 2020

The response to this initiative has been significant and confirms that many students share these concerns regarding our current virtual schedule. This momentum provides a strong foundation as I prepare to present our collective feedback to the administration.

Google meets hinder a students ability to successfully complete assigned materials during a day. Besides the absolute failure of the school system to provide a usable education to its student over the 2020-2021 school year, these google meets attempt to establish normalcy in a time when we need answers and a solution to the overwhelming problem put up by the pandemic. Not constant bandaids.

its so annoying sitting on a call for 20 mins just for the teacher to say look at canvas. let us actually get our work done instead of staring at a screen all day.

WE ARENT LEARNING ANYTHING EXTRA BY DOING THIS. Just wastes so much time i could be using to actually finish my homework and get some sleep for once.
