The government has finally agreed to officially recognize July 21 as a day to focus on mental health awareness in honor of Robin. Seeing his legacy used to break down this stigma feels like the start of the healing we have needed for so long.
July 21 should be known as a National day to get awareness of mental disorders out to people and the general public so that the disorders wont have the sigma in society that they have now It is also Actor Robin Williams birthday and people should remember this man because he has brought joy to everyone. He was not
just an entertainer, to us he was a kind, compassionate, generous, loving,
charming, funny (very, very, very funny) handsome, and caring man Who has made
the world a better place by always going out of his way by supporting charities
and always lending a helping hand and especially doing this through laughter and
making people happy! What the world is learning because of his death, extremely
heartbreaking and devastating as it is, is because of this wonderful man is
that depression and anxiety can hit anyone and they should not be taken lightly.
Through him people who might not normally seek treatment because these diseases
are not normally socially acceptable will not be embarrassed to seek help
anymore and society will realize that people are people who deserve respect! He
has made us laugh and happy even when he was suffering these debilitating
diseases himself. Why shouldn't we honor a man that gave so much of himself to
help others, who made us extremely happy and taught us to love and respect others
through his actions? This man needs to know that he was loved (and always will be
loved) and that his time on earth with us should be treasured and cherished
always and that future generations will learn to love and respect him as we all
do! President Obama you said this about Robin: Robin Williams was an airman,
a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and
everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an
alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us
laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously
to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the
marginalized on our own streets. Please help by making July 21 a national day of mental health awareness and also to remember Robin for all his contributions to charities and his generous help to all people less fortunate than him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX54_hJSQyM
I have spent hours reading through your stories about how Robin Williams touched your lives and the personal battles you face every day. These messages remind me how vital it is to push past the silence and replace the stigma with genuine compassion. We are keeping this momentum going to ensure that no one feels like they have to hide their struggle.

Seeing this momentum grow proves that people really do want to honor his legacy and break the silence around mental health. It is deeply moving to see so many of you connect with this mission in such a short amount of time.

Lets make awareness that depression & other mental disorders are in fact a dease not to be taken lightly. I would like to make sure that everyone with a mental illness like Robin Williams & myself get treatment before it's too late.

I myself have Bipolar 2 disorder, and I would love to see a day where awarness is made to everyone. There is a stigma when it comes to mental health, I'm am on disability because of it and I lie when I tell people I am on disability because of the reaction I have gotten from telling the truth.

There needs to be more awareness and less stigma surrounding mental illness so that when people like Robin can get proper and understanding treatment before suicide is the only option left. A day to raise awareness, dispel myths and to help those who need it should be in place and I wholeheartedly support this initiative.

Its a great way to honor him however we should really honor the fact mental illness is real and needs to bring awareness. So I think we should yes honor him for his great work and the great person but at the same time he may have left the earth but we can take this event for people to maybe wake up and get help before it's too late.
