All crime can have devastating impact on individuals, their families and friends and a community. Sexual crimes are particularly heinous crimes that violate the privacy, protection and respect of those affected.
Awareness of the impact of crime and routes to access support is essential for victims recovery, for society to acknowledge the harm caused. There is a great need for information to be provided.
Sadly, most sexual crimes are not reported. Anyone requiring support can contact Victim Support Scotland with or without reporting crimes.

It is imperative that those affected by sexual violence have access to resources that can help support them. As large organisations that student rely upon, universities should be able to support their staff, alumni and students affected by sexual violence

I believe it is highly important that awareness is created in regards to abuse and it should be made vital in universities that there is support and information available for victims of abuse.

Being part of the Standing Safe campaign at UWS has been an eye opener. I assumed that there was someone on ever campus at every university and that there was a policy in place to help victims of sexual assault. I am really disappointed that this is something we should have to campaign for. The statistics are far too high for crimes of a sexual nature and I hope that our campaign spreads awareness and let's people know that there are people there who can help them.

So important to tackle issues of sexual violence against all ages and genders and making it live, open and talked about is essential to reducing the silence and shame surrounding the abuse and victims. Education at campus level is an essential way forward.

This should be a priority for any University that does not already have these policies in place !

It is very important that sexual violence on campus or elsewhere should not be implicitly condoned by lack of effective action.
