If they are already invasive in the US, keeping them as pets won't make it any worse. It's not as if people keeping them in homes will create more.

I'm afraid I won't be signing this. I love snails and a giant African land snail would be perfect for me. However they are an invasive species in Florida and could easily become invasive in the other states. Invasive species are very damaging as they won't have natural predators so it's very easy for the population to get out of control. Their presence would harm other animals (which I believe would include native species of snails as they would displace the native snails from their niches, which means role in their habitat) and people. They also breed very fast and have a lot of offspring. Not to mention the potential for meningitis if not handled properly. If it was possible to ensure that they would only be pets and couldn't end up in the wild, then it would be a different story. But there will always be uneducated people that will release them. The climate here would allow them to survive in the wild, while places like the UK, where it's legal, have a colder climate that would make it difficult for them to survive and become an invasive species. Making it legal here in the US would negatively impact our ecosystems and could even contribute to the endangerment and extinction of native species which play crucial roles in our ecosystems. They also could harm the economy by eating crops (though personally I'm more concerned about the affect on the environment). Pesticides would be used against them, harming the snails themselves and environments. I wish this wasn't the case, as I would love having one as a pet, but it is. Note that I'm not an expert but I did do some research online before making this comment. It's possible something I said could be incorrect despite me trying to be thorough and informed as this is the internet and some sources could be biased or unreliable.
