Make Denton Safer With A 30mph Speed Limit
The village of Denton is a beautiful, peaceful spot, that is home to men, women and children of all ages, and a wide range of livestock and pets: it is also often an incredibly dangerous one, thanks to the delivery drivers, agricultural vehicles and 4x4s (and cars in general) that currently drive through it at ludicrous speeds.
As things stand, they're doing nothing illegal: while the children and animals of neighbouring Ben Rhydding and Ilkley enjoy the protection of an all-encompassing 20mph speed limit, and folk living in nearby Askwith benefit from a 30mph limit, Denton's narrow, windy roads are all currently subject to the national speed limit of 60mph.
We, the residents of Denton, ask that North Yorkshire County Council consider implementing a 30mph (or even, in the centre of the village, 20mph) speed limit throughout the village: we want to live in a place where people can ride horses, take their bikes out, and take their pets for walks freely and happily, without having to live in fear of a vehicle tearing round the corner at any given moment; and where we're not constantly surrounded by the remains of pet chickens, hedgehogs, and pheasants who weren't quite quick enough to dodge a flying - but, as things stand, perfectly legal - van or taxi.
