Make Crawford Field available for other school sports

I personally played varsity soccer for 4 years at SAHS. This was brought to light many years ago but nothing was done to change it. The soccer field (located behind the school) is no where close to regulation size. It is also littered with patches of gravel and in some spots literal concrete. Crawford field is not owned by the SAHS football team and therefore everyone should be able to access the field.

Guy, there are many school fields being used for multi sports, this issue has been addressed n the past for over 6 to 8 years. We now feel the only redress is from the board level. We also have reports of studies showing how other sports cause less stress and deterioration on fields than football. Thank you for signing our petition though.

I support multi sport usage of Crawford field

I agree, that field should be used for all sports including band. The track field is useless at night. Why does there have to be a petition for something that should be common sense.hmmm

The field should be available for all school related events. For everything affiliated with Saint Albans High. The Band always gets left out of everything. Help out! Please!

It is simply amazing how a large portion of the previous comments offer minimal suggestion or offer of help or elbow grease to make a difference. Unbelievable and shame on those of you who wish to cast those stones. I am a strong supporter of all SA sports and I would do anything to help any sport. I have read the aforementioned comments and would suggest everyone to think about a few things before being quick to judge or negatively comment. I personally have begun involving myself with the football team this past season and I was amazed at how much it takes to just keep the field up to it's current fair, at best, condition. The field is in very poor shape and anyone who attended games saw how the field conditions deteriorated by the seasons end. I would love to have everyone use the field for other sports but if additional sports would have used the field other than the varsity and the midget league football teams we would have ended up with an awesome mud bog. I would ask those of you who have concerns of this nature to bring these problems to the attention of our varsity head football coach, booster president or athletic director so we might meet to arrive at a positive solution while working toward a common goal. I notice that to many people wish to complain or do a hit and run instead of seeing what they can do to help. Be part of the solution not part of the problem. Perhaps the county or city could make other land available to do something positive for the kids of Saint Albans, perhaps a petition could be made to upgrade the field behind the school with lights and address any safety concerns, perhaps a petition could be made to turf Crawford Field, perhaps a long term plan could be put in place to upkeep that turf field in 10-15 years. I challenge everyone who reads this to see what you can do to help. All organizations who need to use the field for practice should be able to use it. Make a FAIR schedule. Maybe the alumni would like to have a fundraiser for a better surface.

The idea that all students should be able to utilize the school facilities is a novel one in my book.

I understand that there is an issue with "water and tear" to the field. So let's get representatives from all of the involved sports (including band) to work on a solution, including funding. Turf, possibly?

The field is in a central location and great for all sporting events! If each sport would chip in and take care after each use, it could possibly be even better. Team work can do amazing things. The band needs the opportunity to learn placement and feel like a important part of the sport as well! There is a sense of pride playing on our home field! The Red Dragons always have a big sense of pride!!!

This truly is an issue. If they do not allow the band or soccor team to practice/play on crawford they need to make a suitable place. The way it always seemed while I was there was that football was the most important team at the school although they didn't win often. Some football players even got special treatment by teachers. Some people would say "Let the band boosters do fund raising to build something" there's only so much fund raising that can be done, especially when the band gets very limited funds (Around 500 dollars) for sheet music and instrument repair.

This is a problem i see with alot of school activities. Where is school pride for all activities? Stop teaching division and push for unity.

I know the most recent upgrade to the field at Crawford was expensive. Crawford Field was sodded with natural turf. Figure out a way to maintain the field, while allowing access to everyone that wants it, and I'll be happy to sign the petition.
