Traffic moves too fast along that stretch of road. There's really no reason to need to travel at 50 mph between a 30 and 40 mph road. With such a short road, the time gained in going that fast is minimal. Also, making turns onto side streets is dangerous with traffic moving that fast around you.

Getting on the extension is a nightmare for residents of neighborhoods just off the bypass. I fear for my self and all the teens and families from those neighborhoods. What has to happen before we DO something?

In general, we need to consider ways to make our community safer and more accessible for pedestrians. In addition, given the number of children that live in the community surrounding the Cherry Avenue Extension, school buses often have to pull in and out of significant amounts of traffic moving at relatively high speeds which is a serious safety concern.

Agree wholeheartedly with this petition. The speed limit is too high, and the problem is worse on the side from 85 to Kenwood, where cars can pick up more speed. Many deer have been killed on that side of the road, and there is no deer crossing sign on that side of the road.

Traffic exceeds the (unclearly) posted speed limit of 45 mph, often doing over 55 mph. Drivers use this stretch to make up time and are often jockeying for position as they approach the next intersection. This makes for extremely distracted drivers. It is very dangerous for those entering or exiting the bypass. We live along this stretch of road, and the safety of the local residents should be a priority. The speed limit should be clearly posted, and should be lowered. Traffic should be monitored and speed limits should be enforced. Turn lanes should be lengthened and a pedestrian lane should be sectioned off with a guard rail.

There have already been two major accidents pulling out from McCormack onto Cherry Ave. At certain times during the day it is almost impossible to turn left and extremely dangerous.

My young children and I have tried to bicycle from Kenwood Avenue to McCormack Road North. It's treacherous! The speed of traffic is too fast, and there's no safe lane for bicycles. With so many homes on each side of McCormack Road, I can't believe steps haven't been taken to prevent a catastrophic event, especially with the rail-trail so close by. The state and town should do something.

I live here too. The high speed limit is unnecessary when you have to slow down at either end pretty quickly. Either a traffic light or reduce the speed to 40mph. Most people go 60!

For 9 months, I’ve lived on McCormack Road in Slingerlands between Cherry Ave. Ext. and Bridge Street. Navigating the extension and McCormack is a terrible accident waiting to happen. It makes me question my decision to buy the house. No matter how fast I can manage to jump out onto the ext from McCormack (the only way to do it), or how early I indicate my intention to turn back onto McCormack from the ext, Im always being run down by someone who is simply doing the speed limit. It makes me cringe to imagine my daughter and her neighborhood friends having to put themselves in such a precarious driving situation every day. Let’s fix this before something terrible hapoens, and we wish we had.

It seems like a hazard and is very difficult to drive in. I very recently got the ability to drive and it just feels unsafe driving to people's houses in the area.

This intersection is very dangerous. I can’t even turn left in the evening. My 16 year old daughter gets very nervous because it is hard to cross with cars going 60mph
