Broad Gully Road needs safety upgrades. We have had countless accidents and a couple of recent tragic deaths, so clearly something needs to be done. A TAC-funded upgrade is in progress, but the guardrails have been installed right at the edge of the bitumen, which creates a long 'tunnel', making it unsafe for drivers who will shy away from the rail, cyclists and pedestrians who will be at risk of being crushed, and kangaroos that will be caught in a fenced trap. The installation goes againat VicRoads guidelines for roadside offsets and tree offsets, but Nillumbik council has allowed this to happen.

As a resident, user or friend of Broad Gully Road, please sign this petition to insist that council fix this guardraill disaster to #MakeBroadGullySafe

I will take this to Mayor Karen Egan to ensure action is taken. Please use the Comments field to have your say.

Whilst as a local resident I appreciate any initiative to make our roads safer, I am afraid the newly installed guard rails at the Hurstbridge end of Broad Gully Road will achieve the opposite. As they visually narrow the road, cars tend to cross the centre line, causing risks to the oncoming traffic. Truck drivers in particular are challenged navigating through this narrowed stretch of road. Accidents are more likely to happen unless quick corrective measures are taken!

Definitely no room now for trucks or horse floats to pass another vehicle. The kangaroos natural trail across road has been blocked by railing meaning they now have to jump over them onto to road rather than hopping. Death for both humans and wildlife just a matter of time.

As a resident of more than 20 years on this road it is now more dangerous than ever. The closeness of the guardrails is ridiculous and we are dealing with so much more traffic with our road being a rat run for everyone trying to dodge Yan Yean rd. My major concern also is the poor kangaroos, they have no idea where to go and i have already come across them just standing in the middle road not knowing where to go, not to mention we are alos getting deer coming this area. Broad Gully rd has so many users and the cyclist are also in real danger of getting hit by oncoming traffic. Already today the rubbish is piling up along the road getting stuck where the rails reaches the ground, not a pretty sight. Thus was just a quick fix by the council to shut us up as we have been complaining for years about our road with nothing being done.

I have been living on Broadgully Road for 14 year and I have never felt so unsafe driving on the road. These barriers will cause more harm than good. In the short time they have been up I have experienced many close calls as I have had to come to a complete stop to allow oncoming vehicles to pass by.
