Ridiculous that tuition is as much as it is and yet we don’t receive simple amenities such as A/C

I am an alumni of UDM, but as soon as I noticed this petition I felt the need to sign! Seeing this instantly brought up memories of the intense heat me and my classmates suffered, particularly in summer.

The summer months are unbearable in Briggs. It truly makes it hard to focus on instruction when you are hot and dehydrated.

Having been at UDM for a long time, air conditioning is overdue. The rooms are unbearable in the summer and at times inhumanly hot.

I am a Type one diabetic who has experienced heat exhaustion in the warmer months of the year in classrooms in Briggs. With diabetes, risk for heat exhaustion is greater.
Symptoms of heat exhaustion are similar to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): dizziness, fainting, confusion, and for some people, excessive sweating. Sometimes I think it’s the heat, failing to recognize that my blood sugar levels have fallen to dangerous lows. Regardless if its the heat and the humidity, or my diabetes, both situations are dangerous. It makes learning or studying very uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I believe that having air condition in places of learning is essential for students to excel with out distractions. If it is something that can be fulfilled with in the capabilities of the university.

As students at UDM, we pay a lot of money for our higher level education. It is unfair that we are not given reasonable learning conditions everywhere on campus. Please help transform all of the educational buildings on campus to be comfortable and appropriate learning environments.
