The university just confirmed that the new cooling system for Briggs is officially funded. It feels surreal to finally imagine our classrooms being comfortable places to learn instead of literal ovens. Thank you for signing and sticking with me through the heat.

Final supporters
Almost every student on the McNichols campus of the University of Detroit Mercy must study in Briggs, its central classroom building. During warm months majors from across campus must try to learn in Briggs classrooms that are not air conditioned and which routinely reach temperatures in excess of 84 degrees, with humidity levels over 70%.
Given the investment that we as students are making in our UDM education, we the undersigned respectfully insist that the university administration make the installation of a new heating and cooling system in Briggs its top spending priority.

I spent four hours sweating through my shirt in a Briggs classroom today and I know so many of you are feeling that same daily exhaustion. We need to hit that next goal to force the administration to stop ignoring our basic comfort. Please send this link to your classmates right now so we can finally get taken seriously.

I am sweating through my notes in Briggs again today and I know you are feeling it too. Let’s get these signatures to the hundred mark so the board has to look at how miserable these classrooms have become.

Our classroom reached 90 degrees on 9/26/2017. We were forced to move to another building because all computers in the classroom were overheating, and we could not focus in class due to the heat and humidity.
Class of 2014 graduate from CLAE. Briggs was unbearable in the summer months, especially on the third floor where most of my classes (history and philosophy major) were. Air conditioning would be a godsend for the students who have to suffer through the summer heat.
I have had classes inside of Briggs during the spring and fall. The classrooms were very hot. I have Multiple Sclerosis which is aggravated by extreme temperatures. Especially is this true for extreme heat. :(
The university spends money on aesthetic things that do little for the students themselves. It’s about time the students come first. It’s stuffy and often unbearable, making it difficult for students, especially those with asthma such as me, to breathe.
It is standard practice to have the windows open during classtime, which often makes it nearly impossible to hear the professor, as the grounds crew seems to mow the grass every few days. A/C would allow us to keep the windows closed without suffocating in the humidity.
Please it is so hot
It's absolutely ridiculous that our massive tuition can't cover the payment of universal air conditioning.

To hot to focus and learn. I sit thinking more about me sweating then speech, profits and visionaries, intro to nursing practices in the jesuit mercy tradition, or philosophy. Help us out. Get some A/C.
