By making such programs readily and easily accessible for students, the school community is ensuring that each child is given an equal and fair opportunity to thrive. Food service programs such as breakfast clubs helps students in poverty especially, get over the hump at school. Children living in poverty may lack basic necessities such as a proper meal on a daily basis. These children lack the resources for nutritious foods which then negatively affect cognition. Implementing food service programs in the school community provides a greater number of youths with a hot, nutritious meal to start off the day. A good quality breakfast is associated with better mental health which can then affect the child’s behavior and performance at school.
