Make Axolotls Legal In Maine
Why are Axolotls banned in Maine? First of all, they are called "exotic wildlife" instead of "exotic pets". They can easily change that title. Another reason is people are worried that if axolotls get out, it will cause havoc in our ecosystems. That is a good concern, but if they jump out of their tank they would die because they would not be submerged in water. If someone let one out intentionally, one little critter would do no harm to our waters. Also, if they are native to Mexico, they would not know how to survive in Maine. Axolotls are an endangered species. If we raised them in Maine, it would help keep them safe, and maybe expand their population. Think of rescue dogs. When you want to have a rescue dog, you have to go through this process of paperwork, inspections, and lots more. If we had something like that for Axolotls, each one could have a good home.
