Make ACT prep optional
To all parents of students currently attending Beech High School:
Beech High School, according to the principal, will be restricting the upcoming sophomore class in their ability to choose the required skinny block and will force them to take ACT prep/ TN Ready prep instead of being allowed to pick their skinny block as promised.
This whole year Beech High School has told us repeatedly that only the freshmen will have a rotation, but now they've added the upcoming sophomores in the mix. The information taught in the ACT prep will likely be forgotten since it will be a year ahead of the actual test, and the TN Ready portion should already be apart of the curriculum in the required common core classes. It's my opinion that it will be in the students' best interest to continue the current ACT prep schedule. Instead of forcing the upcoming sophomores to take the class in their skinny block, it would be more equitable to offer the course as an option rather than a requirement. It should also be noted that schedules have already been completed for the 2017-2018 school year, and this will add an undue burden on both teachers and students.
We, the undersigned, encourage Beech High School to keep the current ACT prep and skinny block classes as was previously promised by the administration.
