Make 61st Avenue SW Safe for Seattle Residents & Guests

We need the speed bumps!

Keep our streets safe! I am mother to 2 small children and I am scared to death of speeders who go way to fast down this road, and dont even slow down at unmarked intersections that are heavily used by pedestrians.

Excessive speed has been a long standing problem along this residential street and has become increasingly dangerous as the population increased. After several failed attempts we won a resolution in the 2019 Your Voice, Your Choice Program, only to have implementation postponed. Please work with us to get this work completed in 2020, hopefully before the summer beach rush hits the peak in August but definitely before the darkness of another winter sets in!

There are 2-3 block long sections making up 61st Ave. SW without cross streets or speed controls. This allows cars to reach speeds well beyond what is legal on residential streets in Seattle (see the multiple petition studies done over the years on speed/volume). We need to slow these cars down with the increased number of bicyclists using this residential street. Backing out of our driveway has become extremely dangerous with the speeds these cars travel. Please fulfill your agreement to make 61st Ave. SW a safe City residential street... for everyone that visits Alki.

Being a resident of 61st Ave. SW since 1974 I've witnessed accidents, excessive speeds & increasing volumes that are equal to arterial streets in Seattle. Multiple times the City has made an effort to make changes to slow/reduce volume on 61st SW only to have it shelved for no reason given. Now after years of failures by the City we win a chance to make that change, only to hear that other residential streets will get the benefit in dollars spent at our cost. We deserve better! The City needs to step up and make 61st on Alki safe for bicycles, pedestrians and its residents. Perhaps the City should just close 61st Ave. SW as it seems to be a no cost alternative .

I strongly urge the City to complete this long-needed project as planned and on-schedule in 2020.

STOP people from using 61st as a 'short cut' to Admiral! They fly down our residental street like they're in a race. This MUST come to an end!!

Keep our neighborhood streets safe

61st Ave has become the main street being used to cut from Admiral to Beach Dr. I walk/bike/run this neighborhood almost everyday and see FAR more traffic on 61st than on 63rd (the correct route). People fly down 61st, well above the speed limits and it needs to stop. There are MANY young kids that live on this street and it is extremely unsafe for them. DON'T DELAY THIS PROJECT!

Please continue with this project!!

Our street is unnecessarily dangerous. It's not just people going a little above the speed limit. Especially with the closure of Beach Drive and Alki Ave for pedestrian use, we need this safeguard.

There are to many cars running down our street at excessive speeds we need speed bumps installed

Especially with the understandable wish to make Beach Drive/Alki Avenue permanently closed to motor vehicle traffic, we have to have some relief of excessive speed and traffic numbers which are unrelenting. We need the city to make good now on our speed bump project already approved.
