Psychology is a doctoral level profession and as such should have it's own board focusing on it's unique professional skills and ethical guidelines.

I practice psychology under TSBEP as an LPA. I have had interfacings with other boards, and see what absolute chaos they are in. Our board is not, and to merge a highly functional board with several underperforming and broken boards is not the answer.

Please keep TSBEP separate. Including TSBEP in a consolidated board would send a message to the public that psychologists are equal to masters level clinicians, negating our expertise, more extensive training and higher ethical standards. Please keep TSBEP separate and maintain the integrity of our profession.

I oppose HB 1501. As a psychologist, I believe that only other psychologists should be involved with the regulation of our standards of practice. I respectfully ask that TSBEP not be included in the proposed consolidated board bill.

I am opposed to item 4 of the Sunset Advisory Commission staff report. We urge the Sunset Advisory Commission to remove the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP) from the proposed licensing board consolidation in [Senate Bill 611]. TSBEP is currently a well-run agency. In consolidating the board into BHEC, psychologists will no longer have authority to regulate the field of psychology, the cost for licensing is expected to increase, the timeline for licensing and resolution of board complaints is estimated to increase up to five years, and no long-term savings can be estimated.
