IA is making a difference and can be the yardstick by which other instruction is assessed. Students can flourish, teachers be happy, and parents be proud and supportive, but it must be maintained.
Each Kingsport child should be challenged and stretched to the limit of their abilities.

My grandson has attended IA for two years. He thrives in the enviroment and challenges that IA provides. It is heartbreaking to think the great strides and national reconigation this stand alone school has accomplished in just 2 years is being destroyed. No body wins.

I am a prospective IA parent. My daughter begins 6th grade in Fall 2014. I would strongly prefer to see IA continue its excellent path forward as a stand-alone school.

My niece loves this school and became very upset when news got out about closing it. I am so tired of hearing about money being a bigger concern over a child's education!

Hi. I'm a 8th grader at IA. This whole situation just makes me mad. I have been at IA for two years now. 3 years ago I would have have cheered anyone on who were trying to shut down the school I attended. Not only has my view on school changed, but even my view on life lessons and how I interact with people has changed. Before I went to IA I never studied for test or prepared for anything. I never needed to. The curriculum and the level of difficulty of the classes were too "easy". That changed the first year at IA. In fact at first I almost backed out, because I was shocked that I was actually having to think, not just memorize questions and answers. IA has successfully made me like school. That's a first. We were told at the beginning of my 7th grade year that it would continue till the end of high school. Well, guess that didn't happen. At the IA meeting a while ago Director Yennie said there was a 50% chance for 9th grade next year. Now theres almost none. Lets change that. Even though the odds are against us, lets use the skills we have learned so far and show them that we deserve to be here and that we are not backing down.

My daughter broke down in tears at the thought of IA changing it's current setup. She loves the school, loves the teachers and just made the cheerleading team at her home base school.I believe making it a school within a school will cause it to lose it's uniqueness that has allowed so many students to thrive. In two separate meetings which a majority of parents were able to attend, we told Dr Yennie we wanted IA to continue as it was, and that we wanted the higher grades added on each year. No other school in the county is receiving distinguished awards. IA is a true gem in its own right. If you want an arts program, look at partnering with some non-profits, like KingsportARTS, who its already teaching arts education workshops and including "regular classroom standards". There are SO many more options than just throwing them in a hallway at another school and believing it will be the same. No. IA is a school of it's own. It needs a place of it's own and the students need a place to call home. Not be orphan students the county found a spare room for underneath the stairs.

Moving this school will severely and adversely affect the education of my god-son. I oppose this move and request the school remain where it is currently located, with its current staff and faculty. In addition I think it is in the best interest of the students that IA be expanded to 9th grade.
