The planned building closures include the Lindisfarne sports hall and Adult Education centre. The elimination of these key facilities will affect the whole community and our wellbeing. We also have a duty to our children to give them the best possible opportunities to excel at sports.

This petition is about the planned closure of these buildings within the middle school site. It highlights the impact and choices made without apparent consultation or visibility of expected costs. It also questions the quality of facilities available for sports participation and further education within the Alnwick area and if alternatives are too costly to be viable for voluntary clubs.

Why should I be interested?
These are facilities for our community within the school site and their loss will affect us all, by reducing our access to both sport and education.

This petition is about ensuring our continued use of good education & sporting facilities that meet the needs of the entire community. Our concern is that if these closures go ahead prior to the provision of replacements, further promises will be broken and we will lose these vital facilities forever.

Why is it important to act now and get our voices heard?
The sports hall & the adult learning centre are to be demolished with no contingency plans and local elections are coming up. We have the chance to influence political and local government behaviour for the common good but only if we act now and protect these community assets.

This petition is from concerned local residents, parents and sports clubs. It is not from a political group, we just want to ensure that suitable facilities are retained. The DCHS cannot accommodate our needs in the short term and for some groups no long term facilities are available. Our clubs could be homeless soon.

Lost Facilities?
A soil mountain also stops our children accessing the sports fields at DCHS. Where are the promised playing fields for rugby and football? The only playing fields suitable for athletics are on the Lindisfarne site - we could lose these too. Junior hockey is homeless already with the closure of the old DHS gym.

Many local residents rely on the Adult learning centre and old gym to improve key skills and to socialise. Other communities have experienced similar issues and the closures of key affordable facilities. Closed buildings never reopen and our playing fields then get filled with new housing...

Can all local residents support us?

Please support this petition to safeguard our access to sport and further education. If we can get huge numbers of people supporting this petition and talking about it, we can save these facilities for the community. Please share this with others.
