In the name of love, please perform the play

My children's high school performed this adorable play a few year ago and it went over well with everyone. The content is appropriate for audiences of all ages. It celebrates love in many forms but is not sexually explicit.

ALMOST, MAINE is one of the most delightful plays i've seen in a long time - and certainly appropriate for high schoolers

I was also able to work with John, and this was honestly the most fun I've had in a production.

Do we know what church/churches complained?

MHS needs to move forward, not backward. This is old school censorship. Leave your religious beliefs at the door MHS staff.

I wonder how inconsistent this school district has been in their preservation of educational pursuits. It's sad how communities can be so blind

Quite honestly, after having been in my high school's performance of this show two years as a freshman, it's not that "inappropriate" for schools. Is there a same-sex scene? Yes. But it is probably the least intimate moment of the entire show! They start off at bros chilling out talking about how bad their dates have been WITH OTHER GIRLS and then one guy says he loves the other and falls down ("love makes you weak at the knees"). It's comical! It is in no way designed to be super romantic like you see in the movies. In fact, their most intimate moment happens on complete opposite sides of the stage in which they are both falling. It's called humor! Further, on the subject of the so called "sexual innuendos", there's no big issue hear. I'd bet that the average high school student has heard many worse sexual jokes and references in the halls of their school than those they would hear in this show. Now I understand that there in the last scene it is heavily implied that the couple has sex. And when I say heavily, I mean HEAVILY. But all acting is is playing pretend, is it not? It's merely telling a story, no? This scene is probably the funniest in the show because of the physical humor of the two people stripping off layers upon layers of their heavy snow clothes until they are both left in their long johns. And then they go off stage but not after the male, Dave, reveals to the audience that his gift to the girl, Rhonda, was a picture of a heart. It's a scene that is cute and forces you to smile and say "awww!" at the end. Not a dirty and perverted scene in any way! In closing, I encourage everyone to sign this petition. Even of you are against this show, sign it to bring smiles to this school's drama program, the cast and crew, and the audience. If you don't support the show then don't buy a ticket. But don't stop this wonderful, cute, funny, heart breaking show from bringing joy to those who do see it.
