Once again the Columbia City Council will vote on the modified plan to extend LeMone Industrial Boulevard to the new Stadium Boulevard extension currently under construction. The Council will hold a hearing and make their final vote on this project on June 16th. The revised extension plan calls for the connection of Maguire Blvd. to Stadium and also to New Haven Road.
Some members of the current council have expressed concern with this critical project due to its possible environmental impact. It is very important to let our City Council know that you support this critical economic development project because:
* Over 1900 people are employed in the Concorde Industrial Park.
* Millions of dollars have been invested in plant and equipment to provide good quality jobs in the Concorde Industrial Park.
* This area lacks CRITICAL access for public safety agencies due to the current single access to a very congested access point.
* There is over 1,447,000 square feet of commercial/industrial buildings valued by the Boone County Assessor at $46,515,750 in the Concorde Industrial Park served by this access.
* These employers paid OVER $1,700,000 in Real Estate and Personal Property taxes in 2008 alone!
* Approximately 3,000 vehicles travel in and out of Concorde Industrial Park. (based on 1900 employees per REDI and 1,406 customers/deliveries per day as provided by the companies).
* The vast majority of this traffic will be diverted to Stadium Boulevard a 4 lane roadway with signaled intersections and direct access to U.S. Highway 63 via this project.
* Previous Councils have supported this project which has caused significant capital investment and job creation.
* A possible new Ameren facility will not be built here unless this project is approved, along with several other planned projects.

The momentum behind this project is beginning to force the conversation in rooms where we were previously ignored. Exhaustion is setting in but seeing the growing list of people who recognize the danger of our current infrastructure keeps me moving.

The city council needs to think about the people working out there. 1900 jobs is a lot to worry about. Just get it done.
