I am very concerned that the children are being called liers. That is very unprofessional of any adult in this industry to say to a student.
I'm a retired police officer and have been appalled by what my granddaughter has told me about magna. It needs investigating.

I currently got to this school and it is a disgrace!!not only do.the teachers bully the kids but they bully each other. I remember one day that my friend wasn't feeling well so she went to sit at reception with rena so the others didn't catch anything,mr heap then had a go at my friend as to why she was out of class and at the receptionist for letting her be there.everyone is scared of mr heap and to say there own opinion about this.there needs to be something done majorly!!!

I have also heard of this problem of no hands. The children are confused as they don't know how to ask the questions. Also, denying children the opportunity to go to the loo is criminal. No other industry denies people the right to use the toilet. If a care professional or any other professional were to do this they would be struck off.... So why be SO strict in this school. Every child is individual and should be treated so, usually if they need the loo they reallyneed it. The professional teach can discern those children who are likely to mess about and those who genuinely need the loo.... Its a basic himan right.... Also if they shove children off to the bungalow, from what I've heard the children are safer there as the teachers are kind and very helpful... So it hasn't been such a bad thing putting children there. At least they're not screamed at there.

It's so sad to read all these comments. We all had high hopes for Magna only to be left disappointed and fearful for our children's health and happiness. There seems to be a recurrent theme running through the comments and we can't all be wrong or liars. My child has experienced the same appalling treatment and witnessed lots more to others. It's not uncommon for SLT to snatch a child's book and make them redo the whole page just because the title is not underlined - such a waste of time when a gentle reminder would suffice. They don't have any lockers and have to carry heavy books and coats around all day, only to have them roughly kicked aside if sticking out a little too far from under the table. My child remembers a teacher allowing two girls to go to the toilet together and then when SLT shouted at the teacher for doing so she denied it to save herself and even had the cheek to say 'sorry girls' after SLT left and they had been given behaviour points! Shows you how intimidated even the staff members are! And then there were the bodily pat downs looking for phones in pockets before an assessment. Obviously girls weren't happy about SLT doing this and I know a lot of parents weren't either! They also have a stupid 'no hands policy' so the children aren't even allowed to put up their hands if they need help or don't understand something, and the 'show my homework' site has led to all manner of problems, but the children still get points and detention even if it's not their fault. God forbid a child gets into the bad books of the SLT as they will literally be provoked and hounded until sufficient reason is found to isolate or exclude them. I know someone who works there and apparently during the first few days of Year 7, they had Learning support staff doing 'observations' - looking out for the 'problem' children who were then promptly shoved into what they call 'the bungalow' away from the rest of the school. I heard from a student who comes to my karate class outside of school, that when ofstead came the children were made to stand up and make a speech and were told what to say and do.
I do agree with these comments that this school does sound like a dictatorship . Boy am i glad my kids don't go to that school.... Sounds like hell from what i hear from my karate students!

My grandchildren are learning a lot of new things at this school and are enjoying science, food technology etc but do come home worried that a math teacher called mrs bass is screaming at the whole class and individuals for no valid reason.
I believe screaming at children does not help them learn it hinders their learning environment. As for the older management team, they should know better than to bully the younger children, infact they should not be bullying any children.
If my heart wasn't so bad i would have strict words with those that shout at children for their own satisfaction, with my handbag at the ready! . From a very sad nan.

The "Outstanding" Ofsted report means nothing.
There were rumours around at the time that the school knew when Ofsted was coming in and sent all the "problem" kids out of school and kept the good ones in while Ofsted had their visit. The kids that were sent away allegedly then went and caused trouble at St Edwards!

I used to teach at magna but couldn't take the constant negativity there created by certain members of the SLT. I saw teachers being told off for trivial things and if the leadership didn't like you, life was made hell.... Infact unbearable.
I'm a professional person and saw very unprofessional and unpleasant leadership. It came to a point that enough was enough and i left.
I felt sad for all the wonderful students i had left behind and sad that myself and other colleagues, who were manipulated and bullied by some senior staff, couldn't speak up due to fear of being sacked. I'm in a much much happier place now. I'm also not surprised that many more like minded staff are leaving at Christmas and some have already gone!!! Good luck to the good students at magna.
