Honourable Pravin Jugnauth
The Prime Minister
New Government House
Port Louis
Mauritius
20 October 2017

Dear Mr Prime Minister
On behalf of the undersigned,
we are gravely concerned for the welfare of seven Mauritian citizens that are on a hunger strike that began on Monday 16 October 2017 to draw attention to the dire situation of women working as cleaners in government run facilities. Reeaz Chuttoo, the President of the Confederaton Des Travailleurs du Secteur Publique et Privé (CTSP) and CTSP General Secretary Jane Ragoo, together with five women cleaners have gone on hunger strike to draw attention to casualisation through labour contractors paying these women poverty wages of Rs 1500 a month. Attempts to address the matter with several government ministers have not received the attention required to address this unsustainable situation for workers that deserve a living wage.
We urge you to intervene immediately to resolve the situation before the health and welfare of our comrades are further compromised.
In solidarity with CTSP,
