We the undersigned wish to voice our objection in relation to HMC seeking approval from SEPA to allow the discharge of septic tank outflow into the road drain and ultimately passing through the newly constructed SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) pond at the Condorrat end of Mollinsburn. We wish SEPA to seek another alternative or to have the contractor simply re-instate the system as it was before they removed it. HMC the contractors building the M80 upgrade broke a septic discharge pipe belonging to some of the houses at the Glasgow end of the village. The group consist of 13 houses with 2 commercial premises including the public house. They then dismantled the chamber and removed the drain system that discharged our outflow to Luggie Waters. I have since then, been in discussions with them as to reinstating the fully operational septic system and that it is not likely to cause us more liability in the future due to their negligence. SEPA and Public Health within North Lanarkshire Council have been monitoring the problem and been very helpful where possible. HMC, have now found a way around the legalities that SEPA were enforcing and they are seeking permission to discharge into the newly created open air SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) pond at the Condorrat end of the village opposite Jackson’s farm. On looking at this at the moment, there is not a lot of flow between the end of the pipe and the water body of the pond and so it will only be worse during a dry spell. The discharge could be held in the muddy ground and create an odour or worse. The SUDS pond was not designed to have sewage discharge entering it especially the fact that it holds water on a permanent basis and so they do not know what the effects will be. There has been a case in Dunfermline where a connection was made by accident and it drastically reduced the quality of the water exiting the SUDS pond. I don’t think any of us want to live next to an open air pond emitting sewage odour with everything that it attracts or for that matter to reduce the quality of the environment around our homes.
