As stakeholders of the educational excellence of Northbrook District 28, we understand these details of the math program upgrade:

Since February, the District has commendably:

* Re-paced the current curriculum;

* Revised math assessments;

* Aligned homework policy and practice;

* Hired a math Instructional Supervisor;

* Offered voluntary, math-specific professional development.

As we know, adjustments to the math program will take time to implement. Consequently, the recently established process of administering screening assessments to identify students in need of extra math support and using X-block to provide students with additional instructional time is both a prudent and very welcome initiative. This mirrors the extra X-block instructional time that is currently also offered to accelerated math students.

In order to assure that ALL of our students are given every opportunity to succeed during this time of transition, we herebypetition Northbrook District 28 to make additional math instruction time during X-block immediately available to ALL interested students, not just the accelerated and at-risk students. We request this change be made available August 2019 through the projected planned completion of the math program upgrade at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
