It is the first week of the new academic year and we have already seen changes in the way we are being taught in HEC in the form of a zero printing policy implemented by the school. We as a student body understand the importance of protecting the environment however, to implement such a policy to a course which contains multiple open book exams which requires students to print lecture notes such as Corporate Finance is disgraceful and intolerable. The cost of printing in HEC is extremely expensive and we pay enough money in tuition fees to be afforded at the very minimum a course pack for Corporate Finance. As a student body we feel this is not too much to ask for and is justifiable.

The administration is keeping quiet for now but the momentum behind this shows just how many of us are struggling with these new costs. It is exhausting to fight for basic materials we have already paid for through our tuition. We have to keep applying pressure because they are clearly counting on us to eventually just give up.

Course packs in physical form are essential for a successful learning process. Given the extraordinarily high printing costs at HEC, the learning experience suffers a lot because students are not willing to spend hundreds of euros on printing on top of tens of thousands in tuition fees.

Zero-printing is apparently not implemented by all departments as we received 200 pages of Strategy cases studies. If we can have this printed why not Corporate Finance course pack?

If it's open book we Will be printing anyway, so in that case we are not helping the environment with this policy.

It is extremely unfair to give the printed lecture notes in French to the students in the classes taught in French, and to let the foreign students print the English version themselves, with their own money.

It's not only Corporate Finance. A course pack for Company Law is also of fundamental importance, since the provided PDFs are only raw scans. Thus it's not even possible to take notes or highlight text while deciphering it.

Environment should not be just an excuse for shifting costs on the students
