LVMS House Switch

If it takes administrative time to facilitate this change, it is well worth it for the benefit of the students. Variety is the spice of life!

I attended lvms in the late 80s early 90s and they did switch up the houses back then. I never were quite understood the purpose of having a house to begin with but I definitely think they need to be switched up if we're going to have them.

CHANGE IS NEEDED NOW!!!! The current set up just makes it easier for teachers with the placement of students for the following year...no thought process needed!!! Problems are not solved, interaction with different students in other houses limited......

As a parent with four children who attended LVMS I am surprised that the movement into different houses in each subsequent grade is not occurring. How does the Board expect the children to integrate into high school and college? The social and learning skills acquired by the students fully outweigh the administrative time.

I am very curious to hear why they did away with mixing up the houses to begin with. I absolutely credit the changing of houses to how the transition to high school went. I’m saddened to hear that LVMS doesn’t think it is valuable for the kids to interact with as many of their peers as possible.

I agree with making a change to the current system. It appears at some point they did switch up the kids not sure what happened to change this. Kids need to socialize with everyone. In the real world they do not live in a bubble. They will need to learn how to adapt and get along with all personality types

I attended LVMS many years ago from 5th to 8th grade. Each year the student were remixed and I ended up knowing every single kid in my class and making new friends. My son, currently a senior at WMC went to LVMS from 6th to 8th and is still meeting people in his class. Three elementary schools feed LVMS, by not allowing the kids the opportunity to shuffle around it makes it difficult to foster new and old friendships. If the child is unlucky enough to have a bully it makes it extremely difficult to get away. I feel they only stopped remixing the kids because it was easier for the school with no thought given to the effect it would have on the kids.

It’s important kids have an opportunity to be with a different mix of students each year. It allows them to forge new friendships, potentially escape situatatikbs that are uncomfortable and learn from students who have different strengths/interests.

Kids need to be mixed up each year, it’s not right to keep the same students together for all 3 years.

I went to LVMS... it was very beneficial to me to switch houses each year. I think my transition into high school was made easier because I knew many of my fellow classmates.

It is not beneficial to be with the same kids. Children need go experience and meet new friends.

This needs to be changed!

I attended LVMS from 1998-2001 and I firmly believe that my entry into high school was successful because by the time I had left middle school, I had the opportunity to meet everyone in my class and to develop differing relationships over those years. My best friends from 8th grade are my best friends now at 31. I think it’s a huge detriment to all of the kids to be isolated to only a third of their class.

I attended LVMS years ago; the houses were switched up every year. I think it was beneficial to get to know more kids, and to have to adapt each year. My boys will attend LVMS in a few years - I hope the house system is changed by then.

I'd be interested in hearing what the benefits (if any) are.

And some houses are a lot harder.

This is not benefiting our children. How are they supposed to be able to deal with life in the future when they are being stuck with the same children every year?
