Currently the Long Valley Middle School organizes the incoming 6th grade into one of three houses. The house system takes a large number of students and breaks them into smaller communities which allows for a more personalized academic experience, however, Long Valley Middle School does not mix up the houses each year. The students are kept in the same house with the same kids for all three years of middle school. This system needs to be changed in order to foster all of the social skills such as independence, interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and survival skills that are crucial to the social and emotional development and well being of our children. The current system is not benefiting our children or adequately preparing them for high school. Please sign to encourage the Washington Township Board of Education, Superintendent Mohre, and Principal Ippolito to revamp the current house system in order to provide the best possible middle school experience for our children.

One hundred people have now signed on to demand that Superintendent Mohre and Principal Ippolito stop trapping our kids in these stagnant house groups. The Washington Township Board of Education can no longer pretend this outdated system is working when so many of us are clearly demanding change.

The Washington Township Board of Education is still ignoring us and hoping we will just go away. We need that 100 mark now to shove this issue back in their faces. Get this to your friends and force Superintendent Mohre and Principal Ippolito to actually acknowledge our demands.

I remember mixing it up every year and it being super helpful with 3 elementary schools going into one middle school
As a parent with four children who attended LVMS I am surprised that the movement into different houses in each subsequent grade is not occurring. How does the Board expect the children to integrate into high school and college? The social and learning skills acquired by the students fully outweigh the administrative time.
It’s important kids have an opportunity to be with a different mix of students each year. It allows them to forge new friendships, potentially escape situatatikbs that are uncomfortable and learn from students who have different strengths/interests.
I attended LVMS years ago; the houses were switched up every year. I think it was beneficial to get to know more kids, and to have to adapt each year. My boys will attend LVMS in a few years - I hope the house system is changed by then.
Under the current system if a student is in a house with little to no friends with them they are stuck that way for their entire middle school career. Even worse if that student has people that are not nice to them in that house. Why the stopped allowing them to change houses is beyond me, unless it's just to eliminate paperwork

As a graduate of LVMS, this is a shame. Kids shouldn’t be limited to a specific group of other kids. How can they make friends if it’s the same cliches in the same Houses? I really hope the administration reconsiders this proposal.

I disagree with the house system. It has put my son into difficulties with bullies that he has in his house and he can't get away from them for three years. Please get out of the house system!
