Objection to the Cornwall Council Planning Application which will prevent extension of the Launceston Steam Railway

A Wonderfull enterprise that deserves its extension, and since they own the trackbed at Egloskerry how dare the council threaten to block the extension! they should be grateful to the Bowmans for giving the area a superb tourist attraction and help there endeavours in every way possible

While fully supporting the idea of a cycle path, this should be in partnership with the steam railway & it's aims for expansion. There must be room for the railway & facilities.

I am firmly of the opinion that the railway be allowed to extend as I believe that the resultant increase in tourism will be of great benefit to the area. Cornwall's life blood is tourism. Don't let this trail happen - there are plenty around already.

The local politicos should take the time to examine the positive fiscal impact the other uk museum railways have demonstrated.

Keep the trackbed available to the railway and help thwart the "great god - CAR".

Cornwall Council need to look at the positives that an off road cycle trail will give to Launceston. Take a look at Wadebridge!!

Launceston steam railway is a fantastic attraction and a real asset to Cornwall. It deserves all the help it can get to maintain and improve its unique charm. Let's scrap the red tape get something done that is really worth while.

Launceston Steam Railway offers the locality a sustainable business/ tourism opportunity. It is a wonderful attraction encouraging people from far and wide regions of the UK, It provides educational and transport possibilities that could and does enhance local business in the area. The County Council should embrace this chance to work in partnership with the LSR organisation which offers so much in terms of meeting all that the Localism Act strives to deliver. Come County Council get your act together. Let the LSR extend and do something positive for the people.

Surely this development can only do good for Cornwall

Councils are highly skilled at ruining the development of local tourism attractions. We had a similar problem in our area, Councils just loose interest in anything that doesn't line their pockets!

Let them extend their railway and let LSR grow as a tourist attraction...

Once it is built on it can never be retrieved for its original purpose. The Cornwall Structure Plan is at odds surely with this notion of surrendering the rail corridor for development. Councillors need to be more aware of their own authority guide-lines before announcing suspect plans.

Once infrastructure has gone it is a hundred times harder to put it back. Historic investment should not be thrown away lightly.

The proportion of elderly population is rising. Many older people can't ride bicycles, but they still need transport. The roads are often unable to cope with increased traffic volume and closures associated with accidents and roadworks. The railway was closed at a time when road transport was just becoming fashionable and there was still plenty of room on the roads. By all means have a cycle route running alongside the railway, but put it in only after the railway has been re-instated. A new cycle route is far more flexible to establish, so it makes sense for the railway to use its original route, which was designed for it in the first place.
