We object to the Cornwall Council Planning Application for 'Construction of new multi-use trail for cyclists, walkers and horse-riders along former railway corridor west of Newmills Hill and east of Egloskerry'as the multi-use trail proposed in it would prevent an extension of the Launceston Steam Railway, which has been clearly proposed by the LSR.
The LSR is a long established business which brings many visitors into Launceston and has a significant economic benefit to the local area. The trail proposed in the planning application would have a significant impact on the LSR and its long term future.
Local Planning Policy SAF7 states that former railway trackbeds should be protected for reinstatement of railways. The Cornwall Structure plan states that developments should not harm or undermine the value of facilities whichcontribute to Cornwall’s attraction
for tourism and recreation. The National Planning Policy Framework states that established businesses should be allowed to 'consolidate, grow and prosper' and that developments should support sustainable rural tourism and leisure developments that benefit businesses in rural areas. This planning application, which removes the potential railway reinstatement and significantly affects an established business' ability to grow and prosper, is contrary to all these policies.
