Principal John Green, of Lakeside Jr High School in Clay County, Florida wants to change the rules for dress code next season. He 'feels' that we de-moralize our girls by letting them wear spandex to play volleyball.
In a high-energy sport like volleyball, where the actions have names like "attack," "spike" and "joust," ensuring that players are ready to execute aggressive moves is essential. Players are required to jump, stretch and dive during a game, and making sure clothing does not hinder any of these processes is key. Wearing spandex allows volleyball players to concentrate solely on the game instead of worrying about adjusting clothing, hindrances in movement and a more complete range of motion. (as noted on livestrong.com)
No other school in the county is making this change, Principal Green is bringing his personal beliefs into a matter where there is no room.
Please help us get our point across that Spandex IS the volleyball uniform and he should not change that!
The volume of support has reached a level that requires a formal response from the district office. I am currently finalizing a meeting request with the school board to present our case against the proposed dress code change. Expect an update regarding their availability once I receive official confirmation.

This is ridiculous. It has been the uniform for years. stop trying to control what these girls wear while they are playing athletics.

Total nonsense. You try diving for a ball in baggy gym shorts and see how well you do. it's called a sport for a reason.

leave the uniforms alone. volleyball is a fast sport and they need the right gear to move properly. focus on the education not the shorts

Seriously? Maybe the principal needs to find something better to do with his time. Let them wear what they need to play.

Are you kidding me? It is spandex, it is a sport uniform. Let the girls play without worrying about their shorts.

Let them play. It's an athletic uniform, not a fashion statement.
