I have often wondered why there were not more LPN's working in our hospitals instead of the higher paid RN's

i am a bc lpn but had to move to saskatchewan for better job oppurtunity and wage.

I I find this very frustrating. I work on inpatient psychiatry and we are often shirt Rn/rpn's. Occasionally Lpn's are able to fill these shortages as long as there is another rn/rpm working. What I find frustrating is that I only get 15 hours per week in my position and would like more. Rn's/rpn's from various units around the hospital constantly work at overtime on my unit even though they very rarely work there. I have worked on inpatient psych for 4 1/2 years and I am familiar with the requirements and duties expected of staff in this unit and always work with an Rn or rpm. Every time an LPN fills the shift, my co-workers(rpn's) are filling out grievances and notices of complaint. The cost of overtime wages for Rn/rpn's is crazy when I can basically do the same job at almost half the price. I appreciate job protection but something has to give.
