Can we please just realise this is irrelevant, yes it was a hard test, but there is no set boundary. The top 5% (or whatever) of test scores get an A*, the next 20% (or whatever) get an A. So, if it was a hard test, the boundaries will naturally be lower, its about how you do in relation to others who did the test, not how you did vs the mark scheme.

Disgraceful paper. I don't see how edexcel can get away with this as a 'GCSE' paper.

Even as a student who attends a school ranked in the top 5 schools in England in the gcse league tables (BBC 2015), my friends and I still found this paper to be significantly harder than all the past papers , and thus believe that the grade boundaries for this particular examination ought be lowered, because not all exam candidates have been in such a position to receive similar assets, and should not be penalised due to variables outside of their control ie the exam board issuing such a harsh examination. Furthermore, the grade boundaries should be lowered in order to protect the integrity and value of grades attained by candidates when compared to past candidates, who had much easier examinations.
Hopefully some change will come about following this exam, as Edexcel will come to realise that setting ridiculously hard examinations is not only an ineffective way of differentiating students, but is also psychologically damaging to the confidence and moral of the students who may be unable to pursue a career which otherwise would have been open to them.
