XXX Lower grade boundaries for CHEMISTRY UNIT 4 2016

So AQA has in recent years made the questions a lot more thought provoking compared to the ones back in June 2010, 2011 etc. Yet the grade boundaries still remain the same?!

I think everyone who took the exam would agree this was ridiculous and the grade boundaries need to be lowered. This exam was REALLY not fair to the people that worked their socks off for this exam. It's impossible to answer those "doctor" questions.

I feel the paper was unfair as it skimmed quite a few of the easier topics for students such as aromatic chemistry & mechanisms and instead focused on one of the hardest, most time consuming topics which was structure determination. I feel this has been the first paper of this syllabus that has not follow the same standardised pattern, and although you could argue papers shouldn't be predictable by being standardised this also meant that many of us had no idea on a lot of the questions, despite doing all the past papers for this syllabus. Some questions, e.g. 'why is ludicaine HCL preferred?' felt very irrelevant when big chucks of the syllabus felt as though they had been disregarded, .e.g. buffers, quite a few mechanisms and IUPAC names. This paper clearly relied too much on application as 82% of students in a poll on the student room felt the papers was the worst of all the papers in the syllabus with a further 12% going onto imply they had no idea on most questions. Overall, I feel the paper was very biased towards the topics examiners know are the hard topics and was therefore an invalid measure of our performance over A2. I strongly feel that during the construction of this paper AQA had forgotten that this is NOT just an exam. This is the predicament of our futures.

No definitions, optical isomerism, mechanisms, nitration, buffers

This paper was disproportionately more difficult than any of the other papers sat in the past ten years. Not only did the questions not reward revision of the specification, but questions that took a long time to answer were rewarded with disproportionately low marks; leaving students with no time to check over answers. The futures of all students who sat this exam will now be in jeopardy and it seems very unfair that it was much easier to obtain the required grades in every other paper in the past ten years. It seems to me that the only fair way to limit the damage caused by this disproportionately difficult exam would be to lower the grade boundaries.

Ridiculous paper, nothing from past papers came up when I was getting consistent 86%+ and felt this paper was unrelated to our specification

It was a ridiculous paper- completely unlike any other paper. I had done every single past paper from the new spec and old spec!!

It was not a reasonable paper. The format of the paper has completely changed and there were no easy equilibrium questions and buffer questions. The paper also required a lot of medical knowledge, one cannot assume that all chemists want to pursue a career in medicine. There is a lot of physical chemists out there.
