The roles of Voirrey in the college are not just baking amazing breads to us, but to support strongly the unique learning process of the college with heads, hearts and hands.
I believe that learning of the college takes place in the classroom, the gardens, the kitchen from morning till night. Her presence shows her life experience learning with Heads, Hearts and Hands, and is very convincing the philosophy of the college. Her original insights keep supporting, healing and embracing students, participants, volunteers and staffs who have problems or worries in their life journey.

When I arrived to the college, in the beginning, I thought she was always alone and sad (I made to myself a promise to make her smile)... eventually I understood that she flows like a little bird, escaping from the crowds but pollinating everyone with a caring feeling; that's why we are everyone here. It was easy, not for me, for everyone, she always had a really honest smile and a hug, she always laughed with all the silly noises and jokes that I was telling or doing. For me is one of the most important characters of the college, not as a superstar, just like a 'bee' doing that, pollinating us with bread and staying around taking care of everyone. We love her!

What would Schumacher College do without Voirry?? My learning at the college wouldn't have been the same without her. Her presence and her gifts are fundamental to the experience that the college offers. I really hope she'll be able to continue doing what she does. Much love to you, Voirry!!

Vorriey is the heart and soul of the college! She is ALWAYS there, had an open ear and heart for every student, new or old and she understands to welcome anybody heartfelt and lovingly. She weaves in the new students seamlessly into the web of the college and is a crucial part of college life! Loosing Vorriey means loosing a part of the soul of the college

I don't know how to describe how much I appreciate Voirrey. Currently, I am working as a cook in Japan.
When I was amazed by the life in my starter jar of sourdough at a personal bread making class at night, she smiled ans said 'You became a part of the ecosystem of food production.' I said to her 'You are a professional bread maker!', and she responded me 'I have never thought I wanted to be a professional. I just want to enjoy the process of bread making.' I can still recall conversation with Voirrey giving me knowledge and thoughts I have never encountered before and giving me one of inspiration for my future job. I definitely believe that learning from Voirrey enriched my learning journey at Schumacher.

She is a wonderful soul! I love the way she discusses every situation personal, college, community and the world. Full of kindness and open heart and mind! Her role is like that seasoning that needs my dissertation, my brokenheart or my emotion is passing through on that conversation in the kitchen, in the corridor, while picking apples or flowers, while making the salad and turning of the lights at night. Voirrey is the true heart of the college. Reaching all people with real open hearts, caring and attentiveness, she is the glue that creates true community in schumacher. Always being there at nights, she is a place for people to talk, laugh and cry with, without judgment and with complete acceptance for everyone. Voirrey and the role she plays are an essential part of Schumacher College. She is at the heart of the community and is uniquely placed to act as a bridge between staff, volunteers and students, a role she plays with love, care, wisdom and compassion. Voirrey truly embodies the Schumacher message of head, heart and hands. Her knowledge of the issues at the college and within the community as well as her critical eye and belief in Schumacher being the best version of itself possible should be recognised and nurtured. She has been a huge source of support, friendship and inspiration to me during my time at Schumacher and I can't imagine the community without her.

Voirrey you are incredibly special. Getting to know you many moons ago as a volunteer I cherish your friendship, loyalty and honesty. I have witnessed you offering the same care to so many others. I can see how you have become a true elder. You understand the subtle yet vital importance of holding space for others in an unobtrusive way. I know you don't seek plaudits or recognition, happy to busy yourself away in the wee small hours of the evening baking bread, fermenting and generally watching out for the community. The ways of the invisible often go unnoticed and unvalued. For once I'd like to shout from the rooftops - Voirrey THANK YOU for all you do :)

Voirrey you are incredibly special. I deeply value your friendship and presence at Schumacher College. I remember getting to know you when I was a volunteer many moons ago. We'd take these random walks around the estate or over to Riverford and talk endlessly about life, the universe, science, people ... whatever was concerning or occupying us at the time. Voirrey you are such a good listener, caring about what anyone has to say even when it differs from your own opinions. I have come to witness you -Voirrey Vorrester - become a true elder to many students, volunteers and teachers who regularly pass through the college. I like many others have had my times of crisis whilst living in the college. Knowing you are around to turn to is such gift. I cherish your presence and your tenacity to speak your truth. In often subtle, yet vital ways, Voirrey is one of the people whose presence forms part of the soul of Schumacher College. In the kitchen, late at night, she is the person who many students turn to to listen to their struggles with living and studying at the college. Her role there should not be underestimated, and her absence would be a great loss to the fabric of the community.
