We, the undersigned residents of Loudoun County, oppose the Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP) as drafted. The current CTP burdens existing neighborhoods in the Suburban area by intensifying community roads with more lanes than necessary and creating “Route 28” sized thru-ways that would cut through cohesive communities. Most roads must remain four lanes. The CTP also threatens the integrity of the Transition Area in the Comprehensive Plan by inducing unnecessary residential development. We support protecting the Transition area by opposing renewed efforts to build an interstate-grade western “bypass” or “corridor” in the County. These elements are crucial toward planning a community that prospers economically, maintains quality of life and limits local tax increases. The vision of a sound CTP sustains the priorities of family safety, a pedestrian-friendly road network, energy efficiency, economic development and community character.
