The purpose of this petition is to request bussing information earlier than normally provided for Lorne Skuce/Palermo school. We are asking for this information as soon as possible due to the nature of the relocation of Ecole Forest Trail students to an incubator school for the 2009/2010 school year. As parents of children being relocated from Ecole Forest Trail to Lorne Skuce, we have several concerns which need to be addressed. Bussing is of particular concern, since ALL students will be bussed. We realize that some of these plans are not finalized until summer, but given the circumstances of the relocation, we are hoping for your support. With our children being relocated far out of our community, regular and existing before/after school programs are no longer viable. Parents need to know the new bus times well in advance in order to make new arrangements. Due to the physical layout of the school, drop off by parents is not advisable; therefore parents should be encouraged to have children bussed. Earlier notification of pick-up/drop-off times and locations will help convince parents. The Town of Oakville is considering rezoning the street in front of the school, prohibiting stopping and parking on both sides, effective July 2009. The existing school parking lot cannot handle pick-up/drop-off zones - it is too small. Parents need to be assured that bussing is the optimal alternative. Since bussing out of our neighbourhoods will take considerably more time to get to school and return home, parents will have to rearrange work schedules to accommodate this situation. In addition to normal work schedules, early morning commitments such as hockey practice schedules need to be arranged. Many parents are upset and stressed by the uncertainty of this school relocation. Some of this stress comes from not knowing how or when our children will get to school. In addition, we want to ensure bus pick-up/drop-off locations are close to home, to avoid additional travel time. We need information prior to summer holidays, so we can plan accordingly, and make this transition as smooth as possible for our kids. Your assistance and support is greatly appreciated.
