My oldest daughter has graduated Longwood prior to all of this useless testing. Top 10% percent of her class. I have 2 others in longwood now and will continue to opt my children out of these meaningless tests. I am appaulled that the Algebra common core regents had such a huge curve to the exam. Another example of a test that was meaningless. Why would an exam have to have a curve of that magnitude just to show students passed it. In reality most failed with their raw score. An entire year of algebra and 70% of the material on the test was not taught. This is a fine example of common core at its best. Pathethic that as parents we are supposed to support common core. Try supporting OUR children and di what is right for our district. Common core is all about politics and money...not for the benefit of our kids!!!

Why would we as a district double down on a test that abuses children. If the professionals "teachers" think the tests are developmentally inappropriate why should we subject our children to it? I don't mind testing children, but it should make sense. This test does not!

I found that letter completely insulting and manipulative. If anything it made my desire to opt my children out of these tests even stronger.

My sons are exceptional young men, graduates of Longwood Central School District, Pre-Common Core. I find it offensive to have a Superintendent of Schools make threatening statements to parents, who know their own children best, about taking tests that are inaccurate at best while being cruel and abusive to the children completing them. School Districts are supposed to be supportive of children while nurturing and educating them to be competent, independent adults. Subjecting young children to these inappropriate assessments goes against everything you were hired to uphold. If you need advise or information, may I suggest you reach out to have have professional conversations with some of your enlightened and esteemed colleagues in Patchougue-Meford (Dr. Michael Hynes), Comsewogue (Dr. Joesph Rella) or Greenport-Southold (Mr. David Gamberg)? All of these gentlemen support rigorous standards in their school districts while opposing these inappropriate state assessments. If after speaking to any or all of these gentlemen, you still have the same opinion, may I suggest you resign as the Superintendent of Longwood Central School District? You most certainly do not represent my views on education and the development of young children.

It is disingenuous to state that parents are harming their children or the school district by refusing state tests! The Longwood teachers are working hard and opting out supports them- otherwise why would the NYS United Teachers AND the Middle Island Teachers Association support the iRefuse movement? Further, the NYS PTA, the largest child advocacy organization, clearly stated that families have a right to choose what is best for their child, taking OR refusing the state assessments. To not respect this right is hurtful. This is an awful note to end the school year with!
