Attn: Support Letter for NC’s Threatened Treasures LWCF Request / FY 2021

Dear Forest Supervisor Nicholas:

The signed community members of the US Forest Service Grandfather Ranger District wish to express their strong support for the NC Threatened Treasures request for FY 2021. This package of priority projects will enhance public access, recreation value, and watershed protection, allowing the Pisgah National Forest to continue in its role as cornerstone of the region's economy.

Supported by critical Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) allocations to NC’s National Forests, our communities and collaborating organizations have achieved significant accomplishments in partnership with the US Forest Service to permanently conserve natural resources and enhance public access for hiking, hunting, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, and other forest pursuits. Our communities and economies derive significant benefits as a result, including increased tourism and visitation.

The FY 2021 projects, including Long Arm Mountain and Sunnyvale Slopes for the Grandfather Ranger District, as well as tracts for other districts in our state, address important needs that improve management of our National Forests, enhance public access, and protect watersheds of the Catawba River & other NC river basins. Long Arm Mountain will address vulnerable, sensitive lands, and significant natural resources bordering the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area managed by the US Forest Service.

The Grandfather Ranger District community hopes LCWF NC Threatened Treasures will support our state's continuing National Forest success in FY 2021.
