This is a petition to encourage the administration at The Citadel to change up the tired pregame routine of the march-over by the Corps and the less than inspiring team entrance. While great strides have been made by incorporating a highlight video and better music, the time is right to make a new and more symbolic entrance. We have a new stadium and a new scoreboard, and we need a new team entrance that is unique to The Citadel. You can imagine the setting if a lone bagpiper, mic'ed up, begins playing over the Johnson Hagood Stadium loudspeakers as it gets close to gametime. The Corps of Cadets silently marches onto the field at the same time, and the knobs remain standing at attention on the field while the upperclassmen file into the stands. Then as the team starts forming up in front of the Altman Center locker room, the bagpiper stops playing, and the intro video immediately comes on blaring and gets everybody pumped up. The cannons go off and the team runs out..."HERE COME YOUR BULLDOGS!!!" Think "Howard's Rock" at Clemson, "2001" at South Carolina, "Enter Sandman" at Virginia Tech, the release of the falcons at the Air Force Academy, etc.. When you hear and see each of those, you know you are witnessing something special that sets their programs apart from all the others. The lone bagpiper playing while the Corps silently marches on and the team readies to take the field will have the same effect. It involves the Corps, the team, and the fans all at the same time. Most importantly, fans of The Citadel and opposing fans alike will know that they are witnessing a tradition that will be talked about long after the game is over. All the great traditions in college football took time to cultivate, but someone had to take that first step. The goal of this petition is to bring about change, and to make all of us look back a few years from now and ask, "Why didn't we do this sooner" Please sign this petition if you support the idea of the lone bagpiper.
