London 2012 Olympics, Dow Chemical Company and the Bhopal disaster

London will be known as the 'Blood' Olympics. To demean the games just to get money from a company responsible for thousands of deaths is nothing sort of criminal and contemptible.

The Bhopal legacy, Agent Orange and a whole load more ridiculous outcomes and 'products'. What morals have DOW and its' shareholders actually got?

Lord Coe has said: "I am satisfied that the ownership, operation and the involvement either at the time of the disaster or at the final settlement was not the responsibility of Dow." However, when Dow Chemical purchased Union Carbide, they acquired not just its assets but its liabilities too. So, Lord Coe, Dow Chemical might not be responsible for the original disaster but surely they are responsible for ensuring that appropriate compensation has been paid and that the site has now been made safe? If Lord Coe can satisfy me that Dow have met their responsibilities, then and only then, will I be in a position to enjoy and celebrate the London Olympics.

As a born and bred British Asian and Londoner, it is deeply abhorrent that the London Organising Committee has awarded this tender to the Dow Chemical Company. And I know that this view is shared amongst the vast majority, if not all, asians living in this country,

Justice must be done, 25,000 people killed and More than 120,000 people still suffer from ailments caused by the accident and the subsequent pollution at the plant site.

It shameful that Union carbide have got away after killing and maiming so many . The legacy of the disaster continues even today. President Obama who made so much noise during the BP oil spill and got the company to pay billions in compensation and cleaning up remains totally silent on this issue. seems like the value Indian lives does not matter compared to Americans. LOCOG should withdraw from this sponsorship immediately, but do they think they will. I don't think they will even consider it!

I have personal experience of the level of illness and congenital disability still affecting the people of north Bhopal. Most are poor and many are one-parent families thanks to the gas and subsequent water pollution.

Bhopal has never seen real justice. It is shameful that Dow gets to slap their name on the games in London.
