Dear Mr. Douglas C. Morrison:
In response to your recent ruling regarding the Pledge of Allegiance, we felt compelled to write you and your colleagues a letter expressing not only our dismay, but our disgust. The arrogance the six of you demonstrated with this decision is nothing short of astounding.

Citing time constraints as an excuse for not reciting the pledge is unacceptable. South Dakota is one of the many states who have adopted the federal Common Core Curriculum. Therefore, your students have ample time in their days to discover the wonders of the Five Pillars of Islam, the achievements of Communist China, and the brilliant diplomacy of the United Nations. But no time for the Pledge?

How dare you say to a veteran that you simply have no time? Our veterans certainly have time. They have time away from their homes and families. They have time to live in substandard conditions while praying daily they aren’t killed in action. They have time to ensure your right to deem the Pledge unworthy of the ten minutes it might require to assemble students in their classrooms for a daily exercise in patriotism.

Millions of American children, perhaps even you, grew up and were educated in this great nation with the American Flag as a permanent fixture in our classrooms. Each morning, we stood and pledged ourselves, as sovereign individuals, to our Republic and everything for which it stands. In many schools, our flag has been replaced with various technology and contrived imagery of tolerance and idealism. Sir, there are no greater ideals than Liberty and Justice. We submit to you and your colleagues that in disregarding the very foundations of what defines our country, you are playing a role in rending the fabric of our future.

As elected officials, it would be wise to remember your places and reconsider your decision. Flagrant disrespect of our veterans and our flag does not fare well at the polls.

Sincerely,

Share for Success
