Lock Haven University - Eddie Severn Retrenchment Recall

Band is a wonderful way for college freshman to meet new lifelong friends and to have a mentor to help them through their first year at the university.

The LHU Band alumni is one of the biggest and active groups LHU has. Getting rid of the band is a horrible idea.

Every college students needs to have this opportunity. This was crucial to my success as a student!

I would never have been able to go to college if it were not for the marching and concert bands!!!

Do the right thing and keep the band program. I never would have met my wife without it. I would not have a daughter. The experiences from Lock Haven University’s marching band changed my life and I’ve formed countless relationships that I treasure to this day. I owe a debt to the program that I can never repay. Please keep this avenue open for those who seek it. Endorse the band and encourage personal and educational growth through it.

Music and band was such an important part Of my college career. I would hate to see young inspiring musicians lose that ability to further nourish their musicianship

The band programs at lock haven were incredibly important to my development both as a student and an individual. I learned lessons, made lifetime friendships, and grew as I took part in the program.

I don't know Dr. Savern personally like most of you might, but I can say without hesitation that this music department has impacted my life. I was a member of the LHU Marching and Concert Band from 2004-07, and an Alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi. Music was what kept me sane and going during my years as an undergrad. Truth be told, these were the best years of my entire life. I've made lifelong friends. Friends that I wish I can see more on a regular basis. Music was what kept me motivated to finish my degree. Music was what kept me in one piece. If this department is somehow ripped from the seams, it would be a huge blow to not only the Lock Haven community, but to all of the alumni that continuously supports this music department. My sincere hope is that the PASSHE reconsiders the retrenchments they are trying to make to most of its university staff. Good luck Dr. Savern. You along with many others in the LHU music department have my support in this.

Band was LHU for me (and I was not a music major). Please don’t cut the music program. It is essential to the well being of so many students.

Dr. Severin and the bands and music and theatre programs and clubs are part of the culture at Lock Haven University. I don’t know if I would have made it through college if it were not for the valuable lessons and people that I learned and met through band and choir. These programs make Lock Haven University that much more marketable to prospective students. I can tell you that if lock Haven didn’t have these programs I probably wouldn’t have attend based on just the teaching program alone.

Removing bands from Lock Haven is a mistake. This program is a key reason why my years at LHU were successful and prepared me for success after graduation.

Keep the music programs alive!!! Music is the reason some people actually stay alive, don't take that from them. Students need to have something they live outside the education classrooms. Students gain friends due to common interest.....what if the only interest a student has other than their major is music and you take that away. LET THE MUSIC LIVE!!!

I am an LHU grad and proud to have been a band member my 4 years there. Those 4 years of band were what helped me get through being away from home. I lost a family member, I had trouble being far away from home, but I knew I could rely on my band family to help me through the tough times. I have so many great memories with band and continue that relationship and making new memories with the close bond of band and the social life we maintain through the years, such as our annual sieg trip. The idea of it being taken away and no longer having band as an option for students is very disheartening. It makes me think of all the school kids that used band as an outlet and as a tool for friendship and stress relief. I know we are the largest alumni group as well as one of the top alumni donators for the university. It would be so sad to see such a great department dwindle and be forgotten.

You cannot do this. Nearly all of my friends at LHU were from the marching band. As an alum, I think this is a terrible decision and based solely on money. I work for a university and I understand things are tight now. However, I think this is a mistake.

Please reconsider cutting faculty positions.

Lock Haven Band was a major part of my positive college experience at LHU. It allowed me to make friends and gave me opportunities to grow as a person. Many students need music and extra curricular activities, taking away the music program and bands at LHU would be devastating.

Signed. Regrettably, I fear this will have little impact on this already decided upon maneuver. I would be curious to know how many administrative positions have been culled. I'll bet I know the answer already.

Having had the incredible privilege to study under Dr. Eddie Severn during my time as an undergrad at LHU, I am shocked that the administration would choose to cut such a first rate individual from their ranks. Not only is Dr. Severn an absolutely brilliant teacher and musician, but he truly cares for his students on a personal level. He has always been someone you could deeply rely on and put your trust in. It would be an unequivocal mistake to let Dr. Severn go. On behalf of so many whose lives have been enriched under the academic mentorship of Dr. Eddie Severn, I urge you to make things right immediately and reverse his retrenchment.
