The undersigned, who are all taxpayers of the State of Colorado and/or persons who have an interest in seeing the government act in a moral and ethical manner, express our support for the Lower North Fork community and its residents in their effort to recover from the fire that swept through the community destroying homes and taking three lives in March 2012.  As part of that support we petition the State of Colorado and State officials to immediately implement proper safeguards and procedures to ensure that a tragedy like the Lower North Fork fire, which started as a prescribed burn by the State Forest Service on Denver Water Board property, does not reoccur in the State of Colorado.  We, the undersigned, are concerned as to the safety of our citizens with such prescribed burn situations and the manner in which lives and property are jeopardized.

We further petition the State of Colorado and State officials, including the Governor of the State and our elected representatives in the House and Senate, to make additional funds available to remediate the harm done, including funds for removal of burnt trees, revegetation, erosion control and returning the land to a state that existed prior to the fire.

We further petition the State of Colorado, the Governor and elected officials to assist and help the residents who have suffered economic damage and injury and assist them in rebuilding their homes and lives, so the community can flourish and heal.  To that end we request the State and its elected officials to not expose the residents of the community who have been damaged and have suffered injury, including loss of family members, to under go expensive and time consuming litigation for compensation and to treat the injured citizens and residents of the community with compassion and dignity.  We believe it would be unfair to subject these individuals to a long and drawn out legal process.  Further, we the undersigned, wish to honor the manner in which the community members have come together and given support to one another and we support the rebuilding efforts.
