We, the undersigned students of Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, draw the attention of LMU Sodexo to the following: THAT, Food prices are unreasonably priced. Not all food items are labeled with price, calories and ingredients. Items that are purchased by the students without meat (e.g. pasta, wraps and salads) are priced as if they do contain meat. Items with or without meat are priced exactly the same. Students need an open channel of communication with Sodexo. THEREFORE, your petitioners request that LMU Sodexo make the following changes on or before January 19, 2010. These changes include: 1. HEALTH INFORMATION TO ASSIST CONSUMER CHOICES: a. All food items will be clearly labeled with calories, prices and ingredients. b. For food items that are prepared at separate stations, this same information will be accessible to students at each station in the form of a poster, pamphlet or lists compiled into a folder so that students can reference the food item(s). 2. PRICE INCENTIVE FOR HEALTHY FOOD: a. Food items, particularly fruit, shall not exceed the going rate at local grocery stores (Bristol Farms, Trader Joe's, Ralphs, etc.) b. $1 shall be deducted from the price of food items (e.g. salads) that usually contain meat, but are purchased by students without meat. This is to accommodate LMU's vegetarian students. 3. TIMELY RESPONSE TO VOICED CONCERNS: a.There will be a response, with a resolution, for each submitted comment card within 72 hours of receipt. b. Comments and/or complaints from LMU students on the Sodexo website will be published and addressed. 4. LIVING WAGE COMMITMENT FOR ALL: All Sodexo employees and farm workers that pick fruits and vegetables for Sodexo who work 40 hours or more per week will be paid a livable wage (which is $11.25/hr. in Los Angeles) and will be given the option to enroll in the health care plan(s) made available by Sodexo.
