Dear Mr John W. Henry

This is an urgent petition for Liverpool FC to make at least two top quality signings before the end of the current transfer window on January 31st 2014.

We have missed out on one of the most promising young talents in world football because we took so long to make an offer and then could not negotiate a price with FC Basle over the transfer of Mohamed Salah to our club. Now he has joined our fierce rivals Chelsea in a last minute deal that has quite honestly embarrassed our club and made us look very incompetent in completing transfers.

This deal should have been done weeks ago. We know the player was identified as a target before January and Brendan Rodgers clearly wanted him. So why did it take so long to start negotiating and why couldn't we reach a deal quickly for such a talented player who was within our grasp? These are questions millions of Liverpool supporters have been asking themselves these past few days.

We also missed out, it seems, on a number of TOP QUALITY targets in the summer of 2013, to name just a few, Christian Eriksen (to our rivals Spurs), Willian (to our rivals Chelsea), Mkhitaryan (to Borussia Dortmund). Clearly we are not moving fast enough on our targets, not willing to pay what our competitors are and are not able to keep our dealings quiet enough to stave off competition.

It seems we are trying to get quality players at bargain prices when this is not possible (we got very lucky with Coutinho and Sturridge). We need to pay near the asking price and stop trying to negotiate when we are clearly not good at it.

Not only is our squad very thin due to injuries, in the current transfer window all the teams around us in the league have strengthened their squads by signing players. Chelsea have bought three and spent upwards of £40m, Everton two, okay Spurs haven't as yet but they have a very strong squad and Manchester United have just signed Juan Mata for £37m and have said more will follow.

If we are serious about finishing in the top four this season we have to dig deep in our efforts and our pockets in the coming days to buy at least two top quality players. We hear names mentioned all the time. The manager knows what he needs and the club should be supporting him in getting the players in FAST. We feel that this transfer window could make or break our season.

We cannot fault the effort of the players or manager this season, they have been brilliant. We believe that those who deal with our transfers and those who sanction them have let the players, manager and supporters down by not securing the top talent, such as Salah, required to help us sustain our top four target.

We, the supporters, know what is right for our club and can recognise when something is wrong. We have the football knowledge you, as owner, cannot buy. Please do everything you can to get at least two top quality players to sign for Liverpool FC in this transfer window.

If we do and we still don't get a top four finish, then we have done our best as a club and should be more prepared for next season with a stronger squad. If we do not make any signings and we finish in the top four, then the players and manager will have done a phenomenal job, at the risk of those who deal with and sanction transfers. If we do not make any quality signings and we do not finish in the top four, then we have not done our best as a club, and the players and manager will not be to blame.

We have heard Brendan Rodgers continually say in the last few weeks that the club is working very hard "behind the scenes" on trying to get players in. We believe that if the clubs around us can get deals done for top players, then there is no reason why we can't.

Ian Ayre recently said we have the same financial power as our competitors. In the coming days, we may just have to prove it.

Liverpool Supporters
