As the teacher of class 203, atWoodrow Wilson High School Iamhere to explain what this petition is for. The neighborhood here at long beach is not the safest town here atLos Angeles. When I first started at this high school it was certainly not what I expected. There were experiences that I thought that I would ever go through. Unfortunately what experience during my first work is not even close to what my kids, my students went through. Each individual had their story and some is still continuing. After a certain outbreak of racism towards a certain individual I asked them if anyone knew about an event that should have been known even to the most remote places. The holocaust, none answered, mainly because none knew this horrific ordeal. During the assignment of reading the diary of Anne Frank I came up with the idea of them writing their own stories, much like Anne's. If these children get the opportunity to be heard, with the results I have received I am sure we can give them hope and the will of becoming better as a person. After all this is the main issue with students like ours we need to provide support so we can create a small in this dark room these kids are trapped in. With this published we can bring hope to other students in similar situation and we can create a new and successful pathway to their bright futures. So I am asking the school board if they can make this a recommended book for English teachers to give. Together we can create a spark for this dark room we are in and their reality wont be as dark as they expect it to be.
