Once again, the math department has failed us, those who it should be trying to teach, not sabotage.

The linear algebra final, as we can all agree, was ridiculous. If the math department demands that it cling to the outdated idea that we shouldn’t be using calculators, then the numbers in the problems shouldn’t require the use of them. On a linear algebra final, I should be tested on my knowledge and understanding of linear algebra, not on how well I can factor cubic equations, nor how well I can handle radicals or fractions.

You may have heard that Dr. Milojevic’s (who wrote the exam) class was given the answer to cubic factoring problem. Although I cannot attest to the veracity of the claim, if it is true, it represents a gross abuse of power on his part and should not be the type of education that we allow to continue, and continue to pay for.

The way this class was handled was very unprofessional. Who among us hasn’t been infuriated with the vague wording and typos on the exams this year? They seem not only that they weren’t proofread at all, but also as if they were written mere minutes before they were given out.

Even if the math department doesn’t care, these grades will follow us. I know personally, that if I had been given the answers to the cubic factorization, I would have had much more time to check the answers of my exam.

As such, I hope you’ll join me in signing this petition, and demanding that action be taken. I plan on bringing this to the dean of students, so please spread this to everyone you know who was disenfranchised as I was. Thank you.
