Candidates in the 2012 presidential elections raised billions of dollars. A lot of this money came, directly or indirectly, from corporations looking to further their own interests. They are expecting to get something back. Another problem is the reporting of these “donations”. Just during the 2012 elections almost 300 million dollars were donated. This money was donated to a 501c4 and then spent on ads or donated again to a different group making the source untraceable. We believe a federal law should be enacted to limit the amount any corporation can donate to any candidate or interest group, as well as stricter reporting standards to close the current loopholes of these secret donations. If our petition is successful and a law is passed, corporations will no longer be able to buy votes.
