In order to actively manage for sustainable numbers of All salmon species the
Alaska Department of Fish and Game needs a more comprehensive,
prompt count on up to date numbers on ALL salmon species.
Prompt, accurate counts on Chinook, Sockeye, Chum, Pink, and Coho salmon will help determine
in season strength of all salmon runs and what regulations need to be applied to sustain all
Little Susitna River Salmon runs.

The Little Susitna River weir is above the Parks Highway and by the time the salmon make it up that far, if they make it up that far, it is to late for regulations to be made for emergency orders. By having the weir back down river, approx. 2-3 miles above The Little Susitna Public Use Facility (Burma Landing), the ADF&G can get a more accurate data count during the in season of each run, not after the run is over.
Without this data, there is not an efficient management plan for this river and this accurate data is critical to all fishermen/women, here in the valley.

We have been fishing the Little Susitna River for over 20 years and without a current, up to date fish count on the this river, correct data cannot be taken for the ADF&G to have accurate management on the Little Susitna and all other local rivers.
