Violent crime in America has become so typical that, most people only converse and seek action when it effects them personally. Some even feel they are protected and safe until tragedy steps into their sanctuary which they once deemed "safe." Just because the news mainly covers gun violence and those effected in the larger cities, doesn't mean those in smaller cities or towns are any less effected. Tragedy struck and forever changed our family on August 23rd, 2016. My youngest brother De'Mar Bester was killed in a senseless act of violence in the alley behind Glenhurst Court in Rock Island, IL My brother was only 24 years old and a father of three beautiful little girls. He was a very loving, generous, spiritual young man who always acted as a voice of reason to those around him. De'Mar's sense of humor, mannerisms and outlook on life has inspired not only his family but, all those who came into contact with his vivid aura. Our mission here at Quad Cities Against Gun Violence is to take back our community and make the environment safer not just for OUR loved ones and children but, for your loved ones and children as well! We don't want any family to go through the pain that courses through our broken hearts. Our first plan of action is to provide proper lighting and surveillance cameras in the area covering 9th Street all the way up to Longview park. This is where you come in!! This is not to invade anyone's privacy, this is strictly to deter violence and criminal behavior! You shouldn't have to be afraid to walk the streets at night! You shouldn't have to worry about whether your children will make it home safely! Take a stand with us! The more signatures we get, the better our chances and the less chance the city has to ignore our voice! We must come together to save lives and preserve the future for our children and their children.
